Chinkoku-ji

Chinkoku-ji is a Buddhist temple in Munakata featuring traditional Japanese architecture with multiple prayer halls and structures across its spacious grounds. The layout reflects classic temple design, with buildings arranged to guide visitors through different spiritual spaces.

Buddhist monk Kukai founded this sacred site in 806 as a spiritual center in the Fukuoka region. The temple played a formative role in spreading Buddhist practice across Kyushu during its earliest period.
