Iida City Zoo, Urban zoo in Iida, Japan
Iida City Zoo is an animal facility in the city of Iida with Humboldt penguins, meerkats, beavers, wallabies, and Japanese serows spread across open-air sections. The layout lets visitors see a wide range of species in one place.
The zoo opened in May 1953 as a place for the community to learn about animals. For more than seven decades, it has remained a steady part of the city's leisure options.
A dedicated section called Capybara Land lets visitors observe and feed these large South American rodents up close. Direct contact with the animals is an everyday part of what happens here.
Entry is free and the zoo opens daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. A parking area with about 30 spaces is available for visitors arriving by car.
The zoo keeps rare albino raccoons that stand out visibly among the animal residents. These unusual animals are part of a collection of about 50 small species cared for here.
