Oshikiri Bridge, Road bridge in Kumagaya, Japan
Oshikiri Bridge spans across the Arakawa River, connecting the Oaso and Oshikiri districts on either side. It serves as part of Saitama Prefectural Road 47, with dedicated roadway sections and pedestrian paths running the full length.
A wooden bridge first appeared at this location in 1919 but suffered repeated flood damage over the decades. The current concrete structure was completed in 1991 as a permanent replacement.
Parks and golf courses shape the area around the bridge, creating recreational spaces for visitors. The nearby Konan region contains ancient burial mounds and the Raijin Shrine, which reflect the long history of settlement in this part of the river valley.
The bridge's reinforced concrete structure is designed for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic with safe passage on both sides. Walkers can cross on dedicated paths while drivers use it as a direct route through the districts.
This bridge holds the distinction of being the longest road bridge managed by Saitama Prefecture and is built from 16 continuous prestressed concrete box girders. This construction method allows it to span the river without needing support columns in the water.
