Sengyō-ji

Sengyō-ji is a Buddhist temple featuring an eight-story concrete building in Minami-Ikebukuro. The main attraction is a wooden Buddha statue at the center, supported by a strong framework that dominates the prayer space.

Founded in 1908, the temple belongs to the Nichiren sect of Buddhism, a branch that flourished during Japan's rapid urban development. Its establishment marked a shift toward adapting religious spaces for modern city living.
