Old House of the Bando Family, Traditional kominka museum in Katayanagi, Japan
The Old House of the Bando Family features traditional wooden architecture with thick beams, tatami flooring, and an extensive thatched roof spanning multiple rooms.
Originally constructed during the Edo period, this residence belonged to the Bando family who held considerable influence in the agricultural development of the Minuma region.
The interior spaces display authentic furniture arrangements and domestic items that represent the daily routines of Japanese farming families from past centuries.
Located at 1266-2 Katayanagi, Minuma Ward, Saitama, the museum welcomes visitors from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm with free admission throughout the year.
The building demonstrates traditional Japanese carpentry techniques where wooden joints connect without nails, allowing the structure to flex during earthquakes.
