Inryō-ji, Buddhist temple in Kita-ku, Japan
The temple features traditional wooden architecture with curved roofs, stone pagodas, and a distinctive tatami room used for various artistic performances.
Founded in 1632 by feudal lord Ikeda Tadakatsu, the temple underwent reconstruction after complete destruction during a World War II air raid in 1945.
The temple maintains a connection between traditional Buddhist practices and contemporary artistic expressions through musical performances and art exhibitions in its spaces.
Visitors can attend Buddhist ceremonies, explore the temple grounds, and participate in cultural events organized by the current chief priest Shinyu Shinohara.
The temple operates as both a religious institution and a performance venue, hosting international artists and musicians in its renovated tatami room since 1999.
