Shibuya Scramble Square is a nearly 230-meter tower in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, with 47 floors above street level and 7 floors below ground. It connects directly to Shibuya Station, one of the busiest transit hubs in the city.
Construction began in June 2014 as part of a broader renewal of the Shibuya station area. The first building to be completed opened in November 2019, marking the end of the first phase of the project.
The name 'Scramble' is a direct reference to the famous crossing just below the building, which thousands of people cross every day. From the upper floors, visitors can look straight down at the full pattern of the intersection.
The rooftop observation deck is open daily, and buying tickets online tends to be cheaper than at the door. Access from the station is straightforward, and signs in multiple languages make it easy to find your way through the building.
The rooftop has an outdoor section where visitors can stand fully in the open air, and on clear days Mount Fuji is visible on the horizon. This open-air rooftop is rare among urban observation spots in Tokyo.
