SHIBUYA SKY, Observation deck in Shibuya district, Japan.
Shibuya Sky is an observation deck spanning three floors at the top of Shibuya Scramble Square, positioned about 230 meters above Tokyo. The platform offers panoramic views in all directions with both indoor and outdoor areas to explore.
The platform was designed by architects Nikken Sekkei and Nomura, opening to the public in November 2019. It represents a shift toward modern vertical development in the Shibuya district and reflects contemporary Japanese urban design.
The observation deck has become a landmark where locals and visitors gather to experience Tokyo from above, playing a role in how people see and photograph their city today. It reflects modern Japanese design values, blending minimalism with bold urban architecture that shapes the district's character.
The best time to visit is late afternoon when you can experience the transition from daylight to the city's nighttime lights. Wear comfortable shoes since both indoor and outdoor areas can be explored.
The Sky Edge section lets you stand at the building's outer edge and experience the sensation of floating above Tokyo with nothing between you and the view. This exposed position creates photo opportunities impossible to capture from ground level.
