羽田聯絡道路, Steel bridge linking Ota and Kawasaki, Japan
The Haneda Connection Road is a steel bridge spanning the Tama River between Ota and Kawasaki, carrying vehicles across the waterway. The structure features a main span of 240 meters and accommodates multiple traffic lanes.
Construction of this crossing was completed on March 12, 2022, opening a new traffic route between the metropolitan areas of Tokyo and Kawasaki. Planning began years earlier in response to growing mobility needs around Haneda Airport.
The structure, known in Japanese as Tama River Sky Bridge, represents the evolving transportation needs of the metropolitan Tokyo area and its surrounding communities.
This crossing shortens travel time between districts on both sides of the river and provides easier access to Haneda Airport. Drivers find a direct alternative here to older routes through denser urban areas.
The design incorporates seismic damping systems in the foundations and bearings to absorb ground motion during earthquakes. Engineers tested the framework through simulations using historical ground movement data from the Tokyo region.
