Toshima City Tokiwaso Manga Museum

The Toshima City Tokiwaso Manga Museum is a comics museum in Minami-Nagasaki that replicates the original Tokiwaso apartment building across two floors. It features carefully reconstructed rooms of manga artists along with shared spaces, furnished with objects and details from that era.

The original Tokiwaso building was a residential complex where influential manga artists lived and worked from the 1950s through the 1960s. The building was demolished in 1982, but this museum preserves the memory of that important period in manga history.

This place brought together artists who supported and inspired each other as they worked on their craft. The rooms show how daily life and creative work were closely connected in this shared space.

The museum is about a 5-minute walk from Ochiai-Minami-Nagasaki Station and easy to reach on foot. Regular exhibitions have free admission, and the space is open daily except Mondays.

In the reconstructed rooms, visitors can see original drawing tools and experience how cramped and simple living conditions were for these artists. These details reveal that creativity emerged despite difficult circumstances.
