海蔵寺, Buddhist temple in Shinagawa, Japan.
The wooden main hall of Kaizo-ji houses a standing statue of Amida Buddha, surrounded by multiple memorial stone monuments and pagodas.
Founded in 1298 by Taa Shinkyo, Kaizo-ji served as a burial ground for executed criminals and unclaimed bodies during the Edo period.
The temple maintains numerous memorial towers dedicated to victims of tsunamis, railway accidents, and the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.
Located at 4-4-2 Minami-Shinagawa, the temple stands a 6-minute walk from Shinbanba Station on the Keikyu Main Line.
The Zutsuu-zuka memorial mound contains the heads of executed criminals from Suzugamori execution grounds, believed to cure headaches when visited.
