MIYASHITA PARK, Shopping center and recreational facility in Jingumae, Japan
Miyashita Park is a three-story shopping and leisure complex in Jingūmae that extends 330 meters along the Yamanote rail line. The facility combines retail spaces, dining venues, accommodations, and recreational areas all within the same building.
The site began as a ground-level public park in 1953 and was rebuilt as Tokyo's first elevated park in 1964. In 2020, it was transformed into its current shopping and leisure complex.
The building houses Shibuya Yokocho, a collection of food establishments representing regional Japanese cuisines from across the country. Walking through this section, you experience how local cooking traditions from different parts of Japan come together in one place.
The center sits right along the Yamanote rail line and is easy to access from central Tokyo. Different areas operate at different times, so check which parts are open when you plan to visit.
The rooftop houses unusual recreational facilities, including a skateboard park and bouldering wall, suspended above the shopping areas below. These elevated sports amenities offer an unexpected retreat in the middle of a busy commercial complex.
