水月公園, Public park in Ikeda, Japan
Suigetsu Park is a green space in Ikeda featuring artificial waterfalls, ponds, and traditional Chinese architectural elements throughout its landscaped grounds. The garden spreads across its terrain with various plants and water features that together form a cohesive garden space.
The park received the Saihoutei Pavilion in 1984 as a gift from Suzhou, China, marking three years of sister city relations. This gift established the foundation for the Chinese design that characterizes the park today.
The park displays Chinese garden design with a decorative pavilion and traditional landscaping that reflects the bond between Ikeda and Suzhou. Visitors can observe these design elements while walking and understand how both cities express their relationship through green spaces.
The park is easily reached from Ishibashi or Ikeda stations on the Hankyu Takarazuka Line, approximately a five-minute walk from Hachizuka bus stop. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the grounds have paths for exploring the different areas.
The grounds feature around 250 weeping plum trees in different varieties that bloom from late February, along with about 6,000 iris plants in 60 varieties. This collection makes the park a place with notable botanical diversity that offers changing views throughout the seasons.
