Altair, Modern skyscraper in Colombo, Sri Lanka
Altair is a modern skyscraper in Colombo featuring two contrasting towers—a straight 68-floor section and a leaning 63-floor section. The structure rises 240 meters above Beira Lake and combines residential apartments with ground-level retail spaces.
Construction began in the early 2010s but faced a five-year pause before completion in March 2021. The project represents a significant milestone in Colombo's contemporary urban development.
The building combines residential spaces with retail areas, reflecting the evolution of urban development in contemporary Sri Lankan architecture.
The building houses about 400 residential units and is equipped with modern elevators for efficient vertical transport. Ground-level retail areas provide easy access to shopping and dining options.
The leaning tower employs a diagrid frame system that removes the need for interior support columns, creating more open living spaces. This structural approach also allows for better natural light and air flow throughout the residences.
