Lotus Tower, Telecommunications tower in Colombo, Sri Lanka
Lotus Tower is a telecommunications structure in Colombo District that reaches 351 meters (1152 feet) into the sky. Its construction consists of a slender green shaft topped with a petal-shaped crown.
Work on the tower started in January 2012 with support from China under the Belt and Road Initiative. Completion came after several years of building and marked a new phase in the city development.
The building takes its name from the lotus flower, which represents purity in Sri Lankan culture. This meaning appears in the outer form, whose petals glow in different colors after dark.
The observation platforms offer views over the city and the ocean, while restaurants and shops on different floors await visitors. Access happens through elevators that travel upward in a short time.
Inside are eight elevators leading to thirteen floors, which house broadcasting equipment alongside conference rooms and museum spaces. This variety makes the tower more than just a technical structure.
