Karoliniskes Landscape Reserve, Protected natural area in Vilnius, Lithuania
Karoliniskes Landscape Reserve is a 162-hectare protected area with forest and deep ravines located between residential neighborhoods and the Neris River. The area is crossed by several entry points and offers various paths through different landscape sections.
The reserve was established in 1960 as one of Vilnius's early nature conservation efforts in an urban setting. This creation marked the beginning of systematic efforts to protect the city's green spaces.
The reserve serves as a meeting place for nature watchers and walkers who discover the local plant and animal variety here. People use the paths regularly to explore the forest landscape and experience bird calls and forest scents.
The area has several entry points, such as the Plikakalnis outcrop in Lazdynai or the waterfront near Vingis Park, allowing flexible route planning. The paths are walkable on foot, though some sections are steeper and require good footwear.
The location hosts over 50 bird species and specialized plants like Mountain St John's Wort, which are rare to find in this urban setting. Winter feeding stations are operated to support the local animal population during colder months.
