Gārsene Manor house, Gothic Revival manor house in Gārsene Parish, Latvia
Gārsene Manor is a Neo-Gothic estate in Gārsene Parish with a two-story main building displaying characteristic architectural style elements. The complex is organized around a rectangular yard and surrounded by various outbuildings including a historical granary, stables with arches, and a mill from the 1700s.
The estate was built in 1856 for the von Budberg family and served as their residence for generations. Land reforms in Latvia during the 1920s changed its ownership and ended the family's control over the property.
The manor displays exhibitions about the Baltic-German von Budberg family and their life on the estate. The collections allow visitors to understand how German-Baltic nobility lived in this region through their personal belongings and documents.
The estate is best explored on foot, with visitors walking across the flat grounds and through the rectangular yards between buildings. It helps to allow time for visiting multiple buildings and the landscape park with its ponds and bridges, especially if you want to see everything at a comfortable pace.
Next to the mill on the opposite side of the road is the family cemetery where members of the von Budberg family were buried. This quiet spot directly connects the estate's history with the people who lived and ruled here for generations.
