Asare Manor, Manor house in Augszeme region, Latvia
Asare Manor is a manor house in the Augszeme region with several auxiliary buildings from different periods, including a fruit barn, servants' house, smithy, and granary. These structures were built between 1836 and 1853 and form a coherent complex with varying architectural elements.
The main building was constructed in 1749 by the Walther-Wittenheim family and underwent major renovation in 1840. That work introduced Tudor Neo-Gothic style elements to its exterior and expanded the overall complex significantly.
The manor shows early Historicism architecture that shaped building traditions in the Augszeme region. Walking around it, you notice how its style differs clearly from older structures nearby.
The site is located about 3 kilometers from the main road and can be reached from route P73 between Aknīste and Daugavpils. Look for signs toward Asari to find the way from the highway to the property.
The grounds were transformed into a park landscape after a severe fire in 1926 and now cover about 6.4 hectares. This green space contains a collection of different tree species and botanical specimens that give the property a restful character.
