Latgale Zoo, Municipal zoo in Daugavpils, Latvia
Latgale Zoo is a facility in Daugavpils that displays animals from different environments. Visitors find spotted pythons, spectacled caimans, red koi carps, macaques, and sugar gliders housed in recreated tropical settings.
The facility was created in 1992 with support from Daugavpils City Council as a center for teaching about wildlife. Since then it has served conservation education in the region.
The zoo serves as a place where visitors connect with animals up close through hands-on experiences. Children can pet rabbits and feed fish in certain areas while learning about different species.
The grounds are less crowded when visited on weekdays, making for a more relaxed experience. Sturdy footwear is advisable since paths wind through different zones and can become slippery in wet weather.
Specialists offer guided tours through specialized wetland areas where biologists explain knowledge about these habitats. Such excursions are organized for groups of about 15 people and conducted in Latvian or other languages.
