Gaiziņkalns Nature Park, Nature park in Madona Municipality, Latvia
Gaiziņkalns Nature Park is a protected area covering about 20 square kilometers across the Vidzeme Uplands. It contains roughly half of Latvia's tallest hills and features hiking trails, a cafe, and facilities for visitors.
Protection of the summits began in 1957 and expanded to all hills by 1977. The nature park was officially established in 1987.
Ancient burial grounds at Tropeli and Dzisli remain visible in the landscape, marking places where people lived and were buried long ago. These sites show how communities used this hilly terrain over many generations.
The park is easy to navigate with clear trails for visitors of all abilities. A cafe, information center, children's activities, and wireless internet are available throughout the grounds.
The park contains Gaiziņkalns, Latvia's highest point, from which four distinctly named slopes are visible. This geographic feature makes the location significant for understanding the landscape.
