Villa Lauri, Neoclassical townhouse in Birkirkara, Malta
Villa Lauri is a four-story townhouse with a large front terrace and neoclassical columns characteristic of 1940s design. The interior has been updated with modern additions including elevators and kitchen facilities.
The building was completed in 1945 and first served as a private residence. Beginning in 1981, Franciscan friars took over the house and converted it into shelter for homeless people.
The chapel inside honors Blessed Nazju Falzon and shows how faith connects with helping people in need. Visitors can sense how the space serves both spiritual and practical purposes for those who come here.
The property is currently undergoing renovations with new elevators, kitchens, and modern installations. Be aware that construction work may still be ongoing during a visit.
The building kept its original facade while the interior transformed completely for various social purposes. This transformation shows how a historic house can preserve its outward character while serving entirely new functions.
