Birkirkara

Birkirkara is a municipality in central Malta combining older residences with modern neighborhoods. Narrow streets run through densely built areas where traditional and contemporary housing sit side by side.

The settlement began in 1402 as a small community and expanded to become a central hub. Over time, the area split into separate districts that eventually grew into independent towns like Sliema and Msida.

St Helen Basilica stands at the center of neighborhood gatherings and religious celebrations held in early August. The church defines the town's character and serves as a natural meeting point where residents come together.

The town is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport. Services including shops, eateries, and businesses spread throughout the residential districts.

An old railway station has been transformed into a public garden that preserves remnants of Malta's former rail network. This site recalls the railway system that once connected different parts of the island.
