Birkirkara, Local council in Eastern Region, Malta

The municipality spreads across 2.7 square kilometers of central Malta, containing narrow streets, modern sections, and traditional houses among residential neighborhoods.

The settlement dates to 1402, growing from a single parish into multiple autonomous districts that later developed into separate towns including Sliema and Msida.

St Helen Basilica houses Malta's largest bell and serves as the focal point for annual celebrations featuring morning processions on the first Sunday after August 18.

The Malta Financial Services Authority maintains its headquarters in Birkirkara, making it a central location for business and administrative services.

The Old Railway Station, transformed into a public garden, preserves elements of Malta's former rail system that connected Valletta to Rabat.
