Lokoja, Administrative capital in North Central Region, Nigeria

The city extends along the western bank of Niger River near its meeting point with Benue River at an elevation of 45-125 meters.

Lokoja served as the British Northern Protectorate capital and became the first European settlement in Nigeria during the colonial period.

The population includes Bunu, Kakanda, Nupe, Gbagyi, Ebira, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Bassa-Nge communities, each maintaining their traditions and languages.

Three main markets operate in five-day intervals, with New Market, Old Market, and Kpata Market providing essential goods to the population.

Located at the intersection of Niger and Benue rivers, Lokoja stands as the third fastest-growing African city with a 5.93% growth rate.
