UNILORIN Zoo, Zoo at University of Ilorin, Nigeria
UNILORIN Zoo is an animal facility located on the university's forested grounds with multiple enclosures for different species. Lions, pythons, camels, ostriches, crocodiles, eagles, monkeys, and baboons are kept in separate sections throughout the property.
The site started as a botanical and biological garden in 1975 on the university campus and was transformed into a zoo in 1985. This change allowed the facility to house a wider range of animals for research and teaching purposes.
The zoo serves the university's biology students as a place to study living animals in a structured setting. Visitors experience how the animals are used for teaching and observation in an academic context.
Visit early in the day when animals are more active and visibility is better throughout the grounds. Wear comfortable shoes since the facility spreads across forest paths and some areas have uneven terrain.
A suspended walkway runs through the forest canopy, giving visitors an elevated view across the entire zoo grounds that few people expect when arriving. This high-level pathway offers a completely different perspective on both the animals and the surrounding forest.
