Amsterdam-Zuid, Residential borough in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Amsterdam-Zuid is a residential neighborhood south of the Singelgracht canal, comprising five distinct districts including Oud-Zuid, De Pijp, Rivierenbuurt, Buitenveldert, and the Zuidas business area. The neighborhood features tree-lined avenues, green spaces like Vondelpark, and a mix of housing styles ranging from older apartment blocks to contemporary buildings.
City planner Hendrik Petrus Berlage designed the Plan Zuid in 1917 to systematically develop the area south of the city. The plans resulted in four-story apartment blocks and public art installations that continue to define the neighborhood today.
Museum Square serves as the cultural heart of the neighborhood, hosting three major museums that draw visitors daily. The area functions as a gathering space where people stroll, meet, and enjoy local restaurants and cafés.
The area is easy to navigate with good public transport and safe bike paths connecting the various districts. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as there is much to explore on foot, especially around De Pijp and Museum Square.
The neighborhood houses the RAI Exhibition Centre, one of the largest conference venues in the Netherlands. This center regularly hosts international trade fairs and conferences throughout the year.
