Abshoven

Abshoven is a small village with roughly forty houses arranged along Abshoven and Beekstraat roads. The settlement features a restored monastery complex that now operates as a restaurant and meeting place for the community.

The monastery complex was built between 1715 and 1717 as an abbey farm for the Abbey of Godsdal in Aubel. The site later became home to noble families before undergoing major changes in more recent times.

The site functions today as a gathering place for food and drinks, serving regional dishes and local specialties. People come to experience how a former monastery has been adapted into a community destination.

The village sits in a quiet rural setting between Munstergeleen and Geleen and can be reached through local roads. Visitors should allow time to explore both the surroundings and the buildings, as parking may be limited during busy times.

A major fire in 1995 destroyed portions of the complex, but the restoration work that followed gave it a completely new purpose. Walking through the buildings today, one can still observe signs of this dramatic transformation throughout.
