Kasteel Meeuwen

Kasteel Meeuwen is a protected building and farm in Aalburg with a distinctive shape and multiple sections. The main building features a basement level, a low upper floor, and an octagonal bell tower.

The original complex was founded in 1355 by Jan van Drongelen and had buildings arranged around an inner courtyard. That earlier structure was demolished between 1840 and 1850, and the current building came later in the 1930s.

The place takes its name from the Meeuwen family, who have lived here for generations. The buildings show features from different periods in how they are used and maintained today.

This is an active working farm with ongoing agricultural operations, so not all areas are open to casual visitors. It is best to check in advance which parts of the property can be viewed.

The property brings together two completely different time periods under one roof, with old elements like the bell tower from the original courtyard integrated into the 1930s building. This blend shows how people renew places while keeping pieces of what came before.
