Polderbaan, runway of Amsterdam Airport, Netherland
The Polderbaan is a runway at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands, located on the western side of the airport. It is the longest runway at the facility with a straight tarmac stretch and greater width than other runways, designed to accommodate large aircraft during takeoff and landing operations.
The runway was constructed in the early 2000s to handle growing air traffic at Schiphol Airport. Its opening marked an important step in modernizing and expanding the airport's capacity during this period of increased international travel.
Access to the runway itself is restricted for safety reasons, but designated viewing areas exist near the airport. From these locations, visitors can watch aircraft movements, especially during busy daytime hours when numerous departures and arrivals occur.
The runway stretches over 3800 meters in length, making it the longest at the airport and allowing particularly large aircraft to operate safely. During certain times, it also serves as a parking and storage area for planes during major international events.
