Quack-monument, Municipal monument and fountain in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
The Quack Monument is a fountain monument in central Nijmegen made from terrazzo, granite, and bronze materials. It features a tall, slender obelisk at its center with four separate water features positioned around its base.
The monument was built following a city official's death in 1920 and also honored his sister. After being removed in 1957 due to traffic changes, it was completely restored to its original location in 2000.
The monument was named to honor a city official and his family, showing how Nijmegen chose to remember its local figures. The Art Deco design with its bronze and granite details became part of the city's public character.
The monument sits on Quackplein in central Nijmegen and is easily reached on foot from nearby streets. Visitors can freely access the plaza during daylight hours to view the fountains and surrounding area.
The monument was so integrated into Nijmegen's planning that its parts were carefully stored after removal, allowing for later reconstruction. This restoration made it a rare example of a dismantled public monument being fully rebuilt decades later.
