Belmonte Arboretum, Botanical garden and arboretum on Wageningen hill, Netherlands.
Belmonte Arboretum is a 17-hectare garden on Wageningen hill containing rhododendrons, roses, and diverse tree collections. The paths wind naturally across the slopes, connecting different sections of plantings.
The site once belonged to Baron de Constant Rebecque, who built an Italian villa there in 1845. In 1951 the property transformed into a research garden operated by Wageningen University.
Artworks are woven throughout the garden design, creating a dialogue between nature and artistic expression as you walk. These pieces become part of your experience, appearing unexpectedly among the plants and trees.
The garden is open daily from sunrise to sunset with accessible paths for wheelchairs and mobility devices. A tea garden at the Coach House operates during the warmer months from April through October.
The garden serves as an active research facility while remaining open to the public, maintaining specialized plant collections for scientific study. This dual role makes it unusual as a place where learning and exploration happen side by side.
