Six Collection, Art collection at Amstel 218, Amsterdam, Netherlands

The Six Collection occupies a private residence on the Amstel River and holds paintings by Dutch masters including Rembrandt and Vermeer. The house preserves artworks, drawings, and objects spanning different periods of time.

Jan Six founded the collection in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, acquiring works through his wealth and connections. The family expanded and maintained it across generations down to the present day.

The collection displays the artistic tastes and lifestyle choices of Dutch nobility across different centuries. You can observe how wealthy families furnished their homes with paintings and objects, and which artists they valued most.

Visits require advance reservations with limited morning slots available on weekdays through the booking system. It is advisable to register early and check availability in advance.

The house is still inhabited today by descendants of the Six family who continue their traditional preservation methods. This makes it a living place of family history rather than just a museum.
