Heerderstrand, Recreation area and beach in Heerde, Netherlands
The Heerderstrand lake and beach area spans across a natural setting surrounded by pine forests in the heart of Veluwe region.
The lake emerged from sand extraction activities during the construction of the A50 motorway, transforming the location into a recreational destination.
The site features the sculpture group 'De Ontmoeting' by Frans Goldhagen, depicting figures walking toward the water in sequential rows.
Visitors can access parking facilities near the beach area, rent stand-up paddleboards, and enjoy facilities at Paviljoen Bij 't Strand.
The recreation area recorded substantial growth in visitor numbers, increasing from 130,000 in 2011 to 190,000 people in 2018.
