Schokkerhaven

Schokkerhaven is a harbor hamlet in Noordoostpolder featuring about 50 detached houses arranged along the waterfront on both sides. The settlement provides approximately 250 boat moorings on the Ketelmeer and functions as a residential community for water sports enthusiasts.

The settlement received its name in 1941 to commemorate the former island of Schokland that had disappeared underwater. It developed as part of the Zuiderzee Works and initially functioned as a distribution point for the agricultural output of the newly reclaimed polders.

Prince Bernhard's 1951 visit to Schokkerhaven included meetings with engineers who worked on the Zuiderzee land reclamation projects.

The western section offers a public beach with a restaurant pavilion and local shops for basic needs. The flat layout makes it easy to walk around, and ample parking is available for day visitors and those staying longer.

Between Schokkerhaven and Ketelhaven sits IJsseloog, an artificial island constructed specifically to store contaminated sediments. This practical solution from polder management quietly became part of the landscape and few visitors notice it.
