Gasunie Building, Office building in Groningen, Netherlands
The Gasunie Building is an office structure in Groningen with 18 floors connected by a central staircase, with each level displaying different color tones. The construction rises approximately 89 meters and contains around 45,000 square meters of office space throughout its volume.
The structure was completed in 1993 and served as the headquarters for Nederlandse Gasunie, the gas supply organization. Its official opening in April 1994 marked an important moment for the city's development.
The building showcases organic architecture through curved lines and rounded forms instead of straight angles, reflecting the design philosophy of architects Alberts and Van Huut. This approach to form shapes how the structure sits within the urban landscape.
The structure contains a protected underground control room for gas management that is not open to visitors. The main entrance is straightforward to locate and the central staircase allows views through multiple levels.
The rooftop garden holds plants and trees that were moved from the former Gasunie headquarters to this location. This living collection creates a green connection to the adjacent parkland of the city.
