Sint-Martinuskerk, Catholic church in Gennep, Netherlands
Sint-Martinuskerk is a church building in Gennep with a basilica structure divided into two levels. The upper church seats about 750 people, while the lower section functions as a religious museum called De Crypte.
The current building was completed in 1954 and replaced its predecessor, which was destroyed during World War II. Three bells from the original structure were preserved and integrated into the new construction.
The interior displays artwork by Theodore Stravinsky, son of composer Igor Stravinsky, who painted the altar's apse showing Christ's glorification in 1967. This artistic contribution shapes the church's visual character today.
The building is located at Martinushof 2 and welcomes visitors during regular hours. The museum in the lower section may have separate visiting hours or require advance booking, so it's worth checking beforehand.
The facade displays the inscription 'Ik ben er' from Exodus, added in 2004 to mark the building's 50th anniversary. This biblical message was deliberately chosen as a lasting feature of the structure.
