Burgemeester Rasterhoffpark, Nature park in Sneek, Netherlands.
Burgemeester Rasterhoffpark is a nature park with approximately 30 hectares of forests, hills, and small lakes connected by wooden bridges and boardwalks. The grounds include numerous walking paths for exploring the landscape.
The park was created in 2005 from the transformation of a former landfill and sand extraction site into natural grounds. This project converted a degraded area into a recreational space for the community.
The amphitheater at the center hosts local events and music performances that draw residents from the surrounding area.
The park is free to access with parking available at the adjacent Hotel Van der Valk and multiple entry points for exploration. The paths are open from sunrise to sunset and are well marked throughout the grounds.
Scottish Highland cattle roam freely through the grounds managing vegetation while a constructed waterfall serves as an observation point. From there visitors can look out over the nature reserves Witte en Zwarte Brekken.
