Lies, Rural hamlet in Breda, Netherlands
Lies is a rural hamlet in Breda, Netherlands, stretching along Liesstraat and Sprundelsebaan near the Liesbos forest. The settlement is home to approximately 770 residents in the North Brabant province.
The settlement was first documented in 1268 as an area connected to forest regions near Breda. This early mention shows that the location was already established as a populated place during medieval times.
The Pastoor van Arskerk church, built in 1929, shaped community life for decades as a central meeting place. The building still marks the character of the settlement, even though it no longer serves its original purpose.
The hamlet has direct access to the A58 highway connecting Breda and Etten-Leur, offering convenient road connections. Visitors arriving by car will find the location easy to reach from nearby urban areas.
Between 1874 and 1934, the area operated Stopplaats Liesbosch, a small railway stop serving local passengers. A former hotel called Huis Ten Bosch was later transformed into a monastery named Huize Liesbosch.
