Noord Hinder

Noord Hinder is a lightvessel that once served on the North Sea to monitor safety conditions and now operates as a museum ship in Hellevoetsluis. The vessel contains multiple decks filled with original navigation instruments and technical systems that visitors can explore throughout their visit.

The vessel was built in 1963 and operated until 1994 on the North Sea, where it monitored weather conditions and transmitted safety information to shore stations. It served as part of a broader network designed to protect maritime routes and warn seafarers of dangerous conditions.

The vessel reflects how the Netherlands historically maintained safety and order on its surrounding waters through practical maritime work. The equipment and instruments still visible on deck show the hands-on traditions of seafaring.

The vessel is moored at Koningskade in Hellevoetsluis and welcomes visitors with guided tours available to explore the ship's different sections. Wear comfortable shoes as the stairways between decks are narrow and steep.

The ship regularly transmitted weather data by radio to shore stations, including information about water temperature, wave height, and wind speed that were crucial for maritime safety. This radio technology was a central part of daily operations on board.
