Kasteel Dommelrode

Kasteel Dommelrode sits along the Dommel River with thick stone walls and an enclosed courtyard surrounded by historical structures. The building combines architectural elements from different periods spanning several centuries.

The castle originated under a different name but underwent major reconstruction in 1605 under Jonker Marcus van Gerwen and his architectural vision. This transformation created the building that visitors encounter today.

Archaeological digs in 1963 uncovered an ancient well, a bastion, and substantial foundation remains of an earlier fortification. These discoveries reveal that human activity at this location stretched back centuries before the current building.
