't Huis de Wolf, Neo-Renaissance villa in Haren, Netherlands

't Huis de Wolf is a two-story brick villa with ornate decorative details framing its windows and upper level. The property includes a separate coach house and sits within planted grounds featuring mature beeches and evergreen trees.

The villa was built in 1892 by law student Atze Wassenaar, replacing a former inn that stood on the site. Over the following decades, the building served as home to various academic departments of the University of Groningen.

The name refers to the Wolf family with historical ties to the area. The residence reflects how prosperous citizens of the late 1800s displayed their wealth through elaborate private homes designed to impress visitors.

The villa sits at Rijksstraatweg 76 and can be viewed from the street, with its architectural features and grounds visible from public areas. Note that the interior is not always open to visitors, so it is best seen from the exterior.

The original owner built a private horse racing track on the property after acquiring an adjacent farm for this pursuit. This unusual feature reveals the sporting interests and financial means of the wealthy builder.
