Van der Valk TheaterHotel De Oranjerie, hotel in Roermond, netherlands
Van der Valk TheaterHotel De Oranjerie is a hotel in central Roermond featuring 146 fully renovated rooms and suites alongside an integrated theater with approximately 800 seats. The property includes two in-house restaurants serving Belgian and French cuisine, a heated indoor swimming pool with massage jets, conference facilities, and multiple event spaces.
The building was constructed starting in 1973 to provide Roermond with a performance venue, as the city lacked a dedicated stage for local artists and cultural events. After facing management challenges, Van der Valk took over the operation in 1995 and added a hotel tower, restaurant, and café, leading to the theater's reopening in 1998 as TheaterHotel De Oranjerie.
The name reflects its dual role as both a hotel and performance venue, symbolizing how entertainment and hospitality blend together in the city's social life. The theater café and restaurants serve as natural gathering places where guests mingle before and after shows.
The hotel sits in the city center near the train station and Designer Outlet shopping area, making it convenient to explore Roermond on foot. Visitors can book a dinner experience that coincides with a theater performance, as the dining setup allows guests to enjoy a meal without missing any part of the show.
Each winter from late December through early January, the theater transforms into Cirque d'Hiver, a circus featuring international artists performed entirely by local volunteers. This makes it a rare venue where professional entertainment is sustained entirely by community dedication.
