Waver

Waver is a small hamlet in Ouder-Amstel that stretches along the northern bank of the Oude Waver river. The settlement comprises roughly 40 houses scattered throughout this rural area.

During the 16th century, Waver was at the center of a tax dispute between Utrecht's Sint-Marie Proosdij and Amsterdam, which Amsterdam ultimately won. This conflict helped shape the settlement's connection to the broader region.

The community center serves as a gathering place where residents come together for senior groups, card games, and hobby club meetings. This reflects how social life in the hamlet centers around such shared spaces.

The hamlet sits south of Amsterdam in flat countryside where walking or cycling are the best ways to explore. Its position along the Oude Waver makes it straightforward to reach if you want to discover the local surroundings.

The settlement is home to Waver 34, a building recognized as a national monument that reflects the site's historical importance. From here you can use the Jac C Keabrug drawbridge, which crosses to Uithoorn and creates an interesting link to the neighboring municipality.
