Sint Annadal Hospital, Former hospital in Brusselsepoort, Maastricht, Netherlands.
Sint Annadal Hospital is a former medical facility in the Brusselsepoort neighborhood of Maastricht, distinguished by dark brick facades and large steel-framed windows. The architecture combines design elements from the 1930s and 1950s in a solid, functional structure.
Construction began in 1940, was interrupted during World War II, and finally completed in 1950. The Amsterdam-based architects Cuypers-Swinkels designed this facility during a period of significant change in the city.
The building was shaped by a religious community that performed medical work and influenced daily operations for many years. This connection to the church remains visible in the character of the place today.
The building now functions as the main courthouse for Limburg province after major renovations completed in 1992 adapted it for judicial use. Access to the interior follows standard procedures for court facilities.
From 1995 to 2007, part of the building housed the Maastricht campus of Japan's Teikyo University, bringing an international educational presence. This use was an unexpected chapter in the building's life after its medical and judicial phases.
