Hoge Fronten, Defence work in Maastricht, Netherlands.

The Hoge Fronten extends across 15 hectares of land, featuring stone walls, dry moats, and a network of underground tunnels within its fortification system.

Military engineers constructed this defensive structure between 1773 and 1777 under Du Moulin's direction, later expanding it with additional fortifications in 1822.

The fortification includes several preserved elements such as the bastion Waldeck, counterguard Du Moulin, and lunettes Zeeland, Holland, and Gelderland.

Visitors can access the site through guided tours that explain the military architecture and defense mechanisms used during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The defensive walls contain specific underground passages designed to protect the native wall lizard population that inhabits the stone structures.
