Mausoleum Regout family, Sepulchral chapel in Meerssen, Netherlands.
The Regout family mausoleum is a funerary structure that combines a ground-floor chapel with a multi-level underground vault. Inside, the crypts hold more than 150 burial spaces arranged systematically across three separate levels.
The structure was built in 1869 as the largest privately owned burial vault in the Netherlands. It received national monument status in 1997, recognizing its historical importance.
The chapel features five stone plates on the apse wall listing the names of those buried in the vault, including founder Petrus Regout and his wife Aldegonda.
The mausoleum stands at Markt 15 next to the Basilica of the Holy Sacrament in central Meerssen. Visitors should note this is a private burial site, so access may be limited depending on the circumstances.
The burial niches of the founders display distinctive pointed arches that set them apart from the round-arched openings used for other family members. This architectural distinction marks their special status within the family vault.
