St. Hallvard's Cathedral, Medieval cathedral ruins in Old Town, Norway

The stone foundations and remaining walls of St. Hallvard's Cathedral stand within Ruinparken, alongside other medieval structures from early Oslo.

Built around 1070 AD, this cathedral functioned as the bishop's seat and religious center for eastern Norway until its abandonment in 1655.

The cathedral carries the name of St. Hallvard, who became the patron saint of Oslo after his martyrdom in the eleventh century.

Visitors can explore the cathedral ruins through guided tours organized by Oslo ladegård, with entrance points near Bispegata street.

The cathedral grounds contain a cemetery where Norwegian kings, including Sigurd the Crusader and Magnus the Blind, found their final rest.
