Grønlands park – Botsparken, Municipal park next to Oslo Prison, Norway.
Grønlands park, also called Botsparken, is a green space with open lawns bordered by trees, located next to Oslo Prison and Police Headquarters. A tree-lined alley of lindens runs through the park and provides a calm contrast to the surrounding urban setting.
The park was created between 1844 and 1851 as part of the Botsfengselet prison development. At that time, the area contained gardens and fields where prisoners worked behind wooden barriers.
The linden alley has been called Egon Olsens allé since 2017, named after a character from the Norwegian Olsenbanden film series. This naming connects the park to a beloved figure in Norwegian cinema history.
The park is accessible from several points and can be visited at any time. Note that its maintenance is shared between two different administrations, which reflects the park's divided layout.
The park's size has decreased over time, especially after the police headquarters was built in 1978 and a central arrest facility was added between 2006 and 2007. These changes noticeably altered the park's shape and extent.
