Klosterenga, Public sculpture park in Old Town district, Oslo, Norway
Klosterenga is a park with art installations, water features, and green spaces that stretches from Galgeberg toward the Grønlandsleiret area. It includes pathways, lighting, benches, restrooms, and an artificial turf field for sports and recreation.
The site was part of medieval Oslo with monasteries, farmland, and grazing areas until a prison was built there in the 1800s. Its conversion to a public park with art marks the transformation of this once-enclosed space into an open community area.
The sculptures and water installations reflect different artistic traditions and create spaces where visitors naturally gather to sit and observe. The art pieces encourage people to pause and engage with their surroundings in this former industrial zone.
The park is easy to walk or cycle through, with good lighting for evening visits. Plenty of seating throughout allows you to rest and explore the different areas at your own pace.
A stream runs through the grounds in a system of channels, basins, and water stairs that connects with various artworks. This water-art line is one of the most distinctive features, creating an unusual blend of nature and creativity.
