Laksforsen

Laksforsen is a waterfall on the Vefsna River characterized by its wide and powerful water flow. The cascade drops into a deep pool, creating a dramatic white-water display across the river valley.

The site became known in the 19th century as a salmon fishing location where fish had to navigate the cascade. Infrastructure was later built to support the passage of these migratory fish.

The name Laksforsen combines Norwegian and Swedish terms, reflecting the cross-cultural influence of the Sami people in Northern Scandinavia.

The cascade can be viewed from several vantage points along the riverbank that are easily reached on foot. The area remains accessible year-round, with optimal conditions in spring and autumn.

Fish use natural routes and small cracks in the rock to navigate around the cascade. Observers report that one can occasionally spot these fish in the calmer pools below the waterfall.
