Swayambhunath, Buddhist temple on hilltop in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The white stupa features Buddha eyes painted on all four sides and stands at the summit of a hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley.
The temple's foundation dates to the 5th century CE under King Vrsadeva, with Emperor Ashoka visiting the site in the third century BCE.
Both Buddhist and Hindu devotees visit the temple complex, which contains multiple shrines, prayer wheels, and a thirteen-tiered golden spire.
Visitors can reach the temple by climbing 365 steps from the main entrance or taking a vehicle to the southwestern entrance for easier access.
The temple's architecture incorporates five statues of Panch Buddhas around its base, representing the cosmic elements of ether, water, earth, fire, and air.
